While we're acing toward getting everything going for the Chuhuac we here at LNG continue to discuss the future and what sorts of weird and wild beasties we'd like to see. Sometimes this results in unplanned fun and when Mik threw out the following description...
"Slight, furry, with multiple eyes and bat ears. Long digits. Robes with tac gear"
...we both scribbled out our own interpretations of this alien and sent the image to one another via text message (we're in different states). The images below are what came of that.
Mik's Version |
My Version |
As you can see both designs have an uncanny resemblance. Two interpretations off the same vague text, doodled hundreds of miles apart with very striking similarities. Not that both have a similar, clunky weapon as well as the same segmented add-ons over the robes. There are differences as well, but it's pretty cool just the same.
Thanks for checking it out,
-Eli
I really like the look of both of these. Will this be a figure in the future?
ReplyDeleteChris, it is really too soon to say. LNG is still being born and its future is as open and undefined as any infant.
ReplyDeleteThe best answer I can give you is that I have notebooks full of aliens that I and associates have created. I'm doodling new ones all the time. Some of them are suitable as miniatures, some of them are too odd or pose serious technical problems.
Stick with us and we'll show you our stuff!
-Eli
The boots, the shoulder segments, the pistols, even the number of eyes...these were uncannily in line with one another. It can't be emphasized enough, Eli and I drew both of these concepts independent of one another, then sent them to each other at about the same time. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteThe differences Eli points out are where I can look at his version and think, "Yeah, given time and more concept sketches I probably would've come to the same conclusions he just did." With the Chuhuac gaining so much great support from the gaming community, it's even little brainstorm doodles like this that generate a lot of LNG excitement moving forward.
So Chris, let me ask you out of curiosity, is this a fig you'd like to see?
I like the concept very much, It's quite different than anything I have at the moment. I've mainly collected 15mm scifi minis in "Armies", but with the large number of neat single figures out there I've been thinking of going for a more mixed up skirmish level of play. I was going to buy the USE ME starter from 15mm.co.uk, but I've been holding off until I could convince my gaming group to try different rules.
ReplyDeleteNice character concept - just thinking, if the upper eyes were larger and further apart in the same way a rabbit's eyes are, this guy could have up to 270 degrees vision, in low light, without moving his head while the lower eyes give him binocular vision for both accuracy (spatial recognition) and fine work (intricate work with long fingers). If his legs were shorter in relation to his body, he may have evolved from some form of ambush trapper (if a predator) or lurker type.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for Eli but you've given this alien's physiology more thought than I have, and I love it, all of it. Consider some of this stuff to make it into any eventual official bio Senor Kobold.
DeleteIf you're cool with that of course.
I would be honoured, MIK. Sometimes it's just fun to play around with a visual and try and work out how we ended up with what we've arrived at and where did it come from.
DeleteWhile Science Fiction figures are enhanced by the Rule of Cool, the Rule of Cool can be enhanced in turn by a bit of thought and a sound back story ;)
I do rather like the bat features of these two. Nice unique for figures and would go well for lots of uses. I do prefure the more 'pure' bat face of the second one.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work guys.
I prefer Eli's bat-face to mine as well. They are just similar enough, but yet fairly different. Maybe mine is a female version?
DeleteOne of the things we've been considering here is a future range of small packs, one-offs really, that would provide single squads of various types of mercenaries, raiders, and other alien hostiles that might not warrant a full military.
ReplyDeleteThese sorts of figures would greatly support the growing number of 15mm skirmish players and also allow a little creative flexibility.
-Eli
Get the insect repellant!
DeleteThe bat ones are so going to be in my traveller campaign. Problem is, no figures!
ReplyDeleteBetter get that one sort soon...
Eli, yep the small bands of maybe 3-4 sculpts would be good. Worth having one of each set rather generic so it can be used for conversions. It was good to see you both on the same wave length for ideas.
